Volunteer as a Crew Member

Help make a difference with The Rivertime Boat Trust, a multi-award winning charity based in Henley-on-Thames. 

Do you have some boating / river experience and a passion for helping others?  

The Rivertime Boat Trust is seeking dedicated volunteer crew to join our team in Henley-on-Thames. 
 
Rivertime operates a 12-seater cruiser with a hydraulic wheelchair lift. By becoming part of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing accessible boating experiences on the River Thames for adults and children with learning and physical challenges. 

Our typical trips depart from the River and Rowing Museum in Henley at 11am or 2pm for two hours.
Volunteers are able to park in the museum carpark at no charge.

Crew are expected to assist our qualified skippers, including securing and casting off the boat and manage a rope in the locks, assist passengers in the boarding and departure.
During the cruise our crew help with putting up the table if passengers are eating on board and make cups of tea, hand out the biscuits and generally be on hand at all times. 

 Requirements: 

  • Some boating experience whether it be motor boating / sailing / canoeing 
  • Due to the nature of the work, we require all volunteers to have a satisfactory level of physical fitness.  
  • 73 years of age or younger 
  • A passion for making a positive impact in the lives of others 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Hold a valid DBS (Disclosure and barring service) check will be carried out by RBT (renewed every 3 years) 
  • Participate in pre-season and First Aid training 
  • Availability to complete at least 10 x 2-hour passenger cruises per year between Apr – Oct 
  • Be familiar with the Charity’s policies and procedures and follow the Standard Operating Procedures
